Exam Stress & Coping

11 May 2015
Luckily this year I don't have any exams but I know plenty of people who are stressing out completely over the thought of the next two/three weeks filled with as/a2 and uni exams so I thought this little post would be a great help in the upcoming weeks! I used to get terribly nervous at school with the pressure of exams and doing well but a few years down the line I've learnt a few things to keep me calmer and less stressed around exam time & if someone had put one of these together a few years ago it probably would have probably helped me a lot!

1. The most important thing is to keep organised, always find out exactly when your exams are and then make a revision timetable making it as realistic as possible - that way you'll having a better chance of sticking to it. Don't forget to pencil in things you can't avoid like appointments & most importantly sleep and then revise around that. If you do this well in advance, you can even make a countdown on an app or the old fashioned way on your calendar and give yourself more than enough time to write notes AND learn them, cramming last minute is never good!

2. Make enough to do lists to last you a lifetime. If you need to write a to do list for how many sections you still have notes to write for or if there's something you don't understand and need to ask someone about, write it down, it keeps you on top of everything plus it's ever so satisfying scribbling out what you've completed.

3. Put your social life on hold and stay off social media, you don't need distracting. This may sound like something your parents would say a lot but really putting two weeks aside to revise is beneficial in the long run, staying off Facebook or snapchat although we all love them, it'll do us a world of good not talking about pointless things instead of studying. Plus the way I see it after the two weeks you've got the entire summer to enjoy it with your friends and you'll know you've done your best in your exams, a win win really.

4.  Write in blue and keep things pretty. I remember reading somewhere that writing in blue helps you learn things better, it must stand out on the page more, maybe it's phscological but I've definitely wrote all of my notes in blue since and it's seemed to have worked. Also highlighters, colourful post its and cute stationary are also a major motivator, if something looks nicer you're more likely to be drawn to it and important notes wrote on coloured paper or mates often stick in your head better because they stand out more.

5. Don't write too much, it's a thing. Sometimes writing notes seems ideal but know when to stop, usually 30 odd pages later and realise if you keep writing you'll find it impossible to actually learn the information on them. This just comes from looking at your notes and picking out only the real,y important pieces of information, there's no point learning stuff that you don't need, it'll only stress you out more!

6. Find somewhere quiet. In the run up to exams these days I lock myself in my bedroom, literally and don't come out except for the odd meal break. It's really peaceful, I'm one of those people that needs silence to concentrate so find somewhere quiet to study like a local library - no matter how many times you try to argue you can learn with music on and earphones in, you can't really.

7. Find out what works best for you. A lot of people (if they're not lucky enough to have photographic memory which I'm always jealous of) write plenty of notes and some people are lucky enough to learn as they do that, then some people re-read their notes and the new information and then there's me who practically reads everything until I've it all memorised and can rhyme it off near word for word. I know this doesn't work for a lot of others but it does for me, if only I'd of known this 5 years ago... Also diagrams can be a great help for learning key points but try & find out what works best and go with it.

8. Recall things & test yourself. If you're stuck on something or can't remember something completely test yourself by doing the old school, learn, cover and write (or in this case recite the information) ask someone whether it be a friend, other half or family member to test you on it until you get it right. My mums been hassled enough over the years with "can you test me on this?", I'm surprised she hasn't hit me with something heavy just yet!

9. Don't over panic!  If you set aside the time & learn your stuff for you exam you'll do wonderfully, don't panic or have a breakdown before the exam. You'll be surprised how much comes back to you when you're sitting in the exam hall p.s revising past papers also helps a lot too so you always know what to expect or the layout of the paper but other than that there's nothing you can do - cramming is never the option.

So there's my exam tips and tricks that I hope come in handy to someone, I know this is length but hopefully it's worth reading if it helps & if you are sitting exams soon, good luck!

Thanks for reading, Jenny xo
P.s what're your exam tips and tricks? Are you panicking over upcoming exams?

DVD Haul

20 April 2015
I've only just noticed how little I mix it up on the blog in terms of non beauty related things which is a bit of a let down since I love reading non beauty posts on other blogs so much so I thought I'd incorporate some more. Over the past few weeks I've been on a dvd binge as you will, usually I'm not a huge dvd buyer and my collection is probably a lot smaller than average so I thought I'd build it up starting with a few Disney classics & share with you lovely readers of course!

I'll always be the first person to put my hands up and say I love Disney, always have, always will and this is showing my age but all of my Disney movies I have at the minute are on video (I'm a true nineties kid) & lets be serious no one has video players anymore so I thought I'd have to update the collection into DVD format. Therefore when I seen a buy one get one free offer I knew I'd have to pick some up, this resulting in me buying eight (I told you I binged) Disney DVD's.

In the end I decided on The Lion King, one of my favourites movies of all time, Peter Pan (the animated version), Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book. At first that was all I was going to buy but then I went back a few days after and couldn't resist so I picked up Cinderella, The Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations and Monsters University to join my lone Tangled DVD. I was sort of restricted in the ones I could buy because not all of them were on offer but you can still imagine my excitement and inner child jumping for joy when these packages arrived on the doorstep, can't you?

To balance it out a little I thought it'd be better to buy a few more 'grown up' movies, I say grown up (I mean not pg), I'm a wild child alright. The first one is the Maze Rumner, I remember seeing this movie last year and loved it, Dylan O'Brien is adorable too and I'm looking forward to the second movie, The Scorch Trials which is going to be released this year (I'm halfway through the book at the minute and I can't seem to put it down).

After that I bought Gone Girl which is unusual for me because at the age of 20, I can safely say I don't own very many 18 rated movies, I think it's because scary/creepy/twisted isn't really my thang, give me a 15 and that'll do me. I'm now on the hunt for yet more DVDs, I'm dying to pick up a few like Finding Nemo & Monsters Inc as well as some non Disney DVDs too, maybe some rom-coms. I can see me needing new storage in the near future for them too so a trip to ikea might be on the cards and that can never be a bad thing. So yeah I hope you enjoyed this kind of post, let me know!

Thanks for reading, Jenny xo
P.s if you can think of any good DVDs, new or old, leave them below? Have you bought any lately?

Guest Post: Valentine Day Makeup Look

9 February 2015
Hi to Jennys readers! I'm Calli from Cal On The Move and today I'm going to be sharing a Valentine's Day makeup look with you! First I just want to thank Jenny for being so great in this collaboration and wanting to work with me on this. Also be sure to check on Jenny's post that she wrote on my blog here, so lets dive in! I really wanted to keep this look natural and sweet but at the same time have enough definition.

Basically, I did my usual face routine using the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation and Concealer, then set it with my Covergirl powder. I applied MAC's Woodwinked in my crease and MAC's All That Glitters to the lid. Then I gently patted Urban Decay's Naked 2 'Chopper' shade right on the center of my lid to bring focus to that area. I made sure to blend it out really well so there were no harsh lines too!

For my brows, I used the shade 'Tease' from the Naked 2 Palette, filled them in lightly and then set them with my Maybelline clear mascara. I also lightly applied Nars Orgasm blush on to my cheeks to add some colour. Lastly I set my whole makeup look with e.l.f's Makeup Mist & Set to finish everything off.

So there you have it! I really hope you enjoyed my makeup look and thank you so much for reading! This collaboration was so much fun to do, so thanks again to Jenny :) Oh and be sure to check out my Blog, Cal xx

The British Tag

24 January 2015
A good old tag post always goes down a treat and honestly what could be better than the British Tag? I've seen a lot of bloggers and youtubers take a stab at this one and I thought I'd do the same :)

*not my own photo
How many cups of tea do you have and how many sugars?
I usually have a cup in the morning as soon as I roll out of bed to wake myself up and shame on me, no sugar. I only add sugar to tea when you're buying tea out and you know it would be horrible otherwise or else when I really need an energy kick - being a coffee hater I need all the energy I can get from that.

Favourite part of your roast?
I'd have to say homemade roast potatoes or mash with gravy swamping it all - nothing beats that. In fact its really hard to pick just one part of my roast, I love all of it, bar Yorkshire puddings and if I could eat roast dinners everyday, I would.

Favourite dunking biscuit?
A good rich tea is always a winner, its actually quite hard to find something to beat it but equally as nice and catering to my chocolate addicted self is a chocolate bourbon, yum.

Favourite quintessentially British pastime?
I wouldn't say I have one, in fact when I think of British pastime I automatically think of polo or rugby, neither would go down very well for me. If long walks on a nice sunny day in the country count then I'll say that.

Favourite word?
I have a tendency to say most things are lovely which is awfully British and I also say wee a lot instead of little but that's more colloquial not British I don't think.

Cockney rhyming slang?
I can't say I know an awful lot of Cockney rhyming slang but I do love the apple and pears (for stairs) or the dog and bone for using the phone. All very fun.

Favourite sweet?
As I'm older now I love having Bon Bons or Rhubarb and Custards from time to time but when I was younger Parma Violets and Flying Saucers were drool worthy. There's probably so many more that I can think of but they're the first ones that spring to mind.

What would your pub be called?
Oh goodness, this would be something typically involving an arms or rose or something else along those lines. I've no idea what I would call it though, I'll have to have a long hard think.

Number 1 British person?
I should probably say the Queen since shes the most famous but I'm quite fond of Prince Harry, always the wild child. There's also plenty of musicians, actors and actresses but I'll just stick with the Queen.

Favourite shop / restuarant?
I love Primark for absolute bargains, most shops are everywhere nowadays so its a bit hard to differentiate where they all started but yeah. Also Boots or Superdrug for my beauty needs! In terms of restuarants its the same, I do love settling down in a nice little pub in the middle of nowhere and having a good old traditional roast or 'pub food''.

What British song pops into your head?
Not so much a song but bands, Snow Patrol are a firm (and local) favourite, also Coldplay, The Beatles and the like. Also Oasis and I'm quite fond of The Kinks song, you really got me. I'm sure theres plenty of newer British artists too that I adore, including Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, One Direction etc.

Marmite, yes or no?
A big massive no. I've tried it once and it was enough. The smell is horrid, as if that isn't a big enough of warning for you, just avoid it at all costs. I know some people who love it but no, it really is a love or hate thing.

Thats all of my answers, I hope you enjoyed reading them and if you've done this tag please leave me links or if you haven't why not give it a try and let me know. I actually found it really fun!

Thanks for reading, Jenny xo

Illamasqua Magnetism VS Rimmel 31

6 November 2014
Now as soon as the Autumn months roll around we all jump on the berry lipped bandwagon at every opportunity, the most famous of the lot being MAC Rebel, closely second by the Rimmel Kate Moss 107. Although these are in my collection I was having a little peek around to see if I had any other berry lipsticks & found two others in my collection, Illamasqua Magnetism and Rimmel Lasting Finish in 31. With both of these I hadn't heard a thing about them before purchasing but they're just as lovely and I thought I'd do a bit of a comparison post today, so here we are....

Illamasqua Lipstick in Magnetism
Rimmel Lasting Finish in Shade 31

Magnetism was my first Illamasqua lipstick purchase way back last year in the January sales and it hasn't exactly got its use yet, truth be told I'd forgotten about it and now that I've come across it for this post I'm sure it won't be out of my handbag or off my lips. I really like the Illamasqua packaging, square, sleek & black with the brand along one side and the logo on the lid. It looks sophisticated, no bright pink and glittery packaging nonsense here.

At first glance, the bullet seems like a true berry but upon application its more of a borderline berry/deep pink which is a bit misleading but I've found most berry lipsticks are! The bullet is a nice shape and easy to apply, simply gliding on and isn't drying at all like I first expected and lasted for hours without needing touched up. I would recommend using a lip scrub or a lip balm before application but thats just a precaution I take with every lipstick, it makes all the difference! After this post I'm sort of wondering why I don't have any other Illasmasqua lipsticks!

The second lipstick is the Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in 'shade 31'. Similarly to the Illasmasqua offering this is slightly less berry toned and looks more of a fuschia colour on the lips. This lipstick I've found is a lot creamier than the Illamasqua lipstick upon application and although it's a good thing (it doesn't dry your lips out in the the cold weather), I would prefer knowing my lips aren't going to slip or bleed throughout the day - the perfect solution to this being a berry toned lipliner (well fuschia/berry in this case). I love the packaging of the Rimmel lipsticks, again black with the logo on the top and brand name on the lid but this is more circular rather than square and I don't mind simply chucking it in my handbag whereas with the Illamasqua I'm a little more careful. Again this lipstick is really easy to apply and last for a good few hours (with eating and drinking) before needing checked on and its a lovely addition to my ever growing collection of Rimmel/Kate Moss lipsticks.

All in all both lipsticks are lovely alternative berry choices and for the same amount of product the Rimmel offering is more budget friendly and the Illamasqua lipstick is still reasonably budget friendly, just borderline higher end prices and I would recommend them both for the winter months!

Thanks for reading, Jenny xo
P.s which of these two colours do you prefer OR do you own either of these lipsticks?
